Sorry, no hobby content in this one

The most powerful military in the world, not to mention any number of intelligence agencies and other federal resources, will soon be under the command of a gibbering fascist. Perhaps I will cease to post here, as I divert my time and money to activism and protest. Perhaps my posting rate will increase markedly, as I delve into escapism to insulate myself from the suffering and misery of my fellow Americans (and, frankly, the rest of humanity). I don't know.

But just in case: been nice knowing you! Thanks for all the views and comments!

Halloween update

Still in the early construction stages, but here are the beginnings of my Halloween costume. Many of you will probably recognize what I'm going for, but for those that need a hint, let's just say it's a historical spin on a Halloween classic...

Now, off to the store for more red thread and maybe some chalk.

My opinion on current events is sometimes influenced by my awareness of history:

It's mind-boggling that British soldiers from the 1700s were held more accountable than modern American policemen. If you're confused, google (or baidu or yandex) "Darren Wilson".

Related fun fact: if you are a visitor from literally any other country, you have a lower per-capita imprisonment rate than we do here. Putin's Russia? Communist China? Any random banana republic or middle-eastern petro-kingdom? Your government has imprisoned less of its citizens than mine has!

And we call ourselves "Land of the Free"!

It has come to my attention that the Ukrainian government is willing to pay bloggers to repeat pro-Yanukovych talking points. My blog may not be a dedicated political vehicle, nor does it have the readership numbers of, say, redstate.com, but The Spoony Bardiche does have a dedicated, diverse following of Eastern-European-history enthusiasts, whom I will happily exploit in exchange for a small compensation.

Apparently, the "going rate" for the services you request is $500, but I will happily accept as little as half of that. And even that token payment is really a net gain for you, since I intend to spend it all on 28mm Muscovite miniatures, which I will use to further illustrate the virtues of Slavic hegemony in the face of the decadent, meddling West.

Current Events

You probably already know by now, but Ukraine is in serious turmoil. My blog is about the events of 350-odd years ago, but since the current happenings there are not dissimilar to the events of the late 17th century (though thankfully not on the same scale), I feel obligated to at least mention it.

This seems to be a good source for up-to-date news.

I don't have any Ottoman miniatures yet, but with luck I'll have a few by this time next year. Hope your Thanksgiving dinners were tasty!

Painting of Mikołaj Potocki continues apace, but as I was poking around the internet trying to figure out a likely hair (or rather, beard) color, I stumbled across this vodka. It's got the appropriate coat of arms and everything! Looks expensive, must investigate further...
