I played the Cossack/Tatar side, and lost pretty handily. Commanded Shot aren't much good out in the open...

First game of Pikeman's Lament
Unfortunately, I was too busy making sure we got the rules more-or-less right to take pictures or put together a proper report. But my opponent managed to get a nice picture at the end of the first turn.

Mohawk Iroquois WiP
A small side project before returning to Eastern Europe. They still need touch-ups, clothing embellishments, static grass and a unit leader.
They are plastic Wargames Factory (now Warlord Games, I believe) Woodland Indians, unconverted except for the headdresses made from cardstock and towel fluff.

Peasant Battalia
God willing, it's going to be years before I paint another Eastern-European peasant.
To recap, they are a mix of Assault Group metals, converted Wagames Factory Persians (so cheap!), and lightly converted Gripping Beast dark age warriors. The GB kit is what I'd recommend to anyone looking to make some peasants of their own. Warlord Games' peasant weapons packs were used throughout, and greenstuff for the hats. The standards are Napoleonic Opolchenie banners found via google search.

Beyoncé
I don't often get direct inspiration from pop culture, but the Formation music video from a week ago (the day before the Super Bowl) was pretty amazing, so I tried to replicate my favorite Beyoncé look in miniature form.
The head is from Wargames Factory Soviet infantry, the body is from the same company's WSS artillery crew, and the arms are from a Warlord Games Celt, all with plenty of greenstuff on top (some of which needs to be filed better). I guess she's some sort of monster hunter.

an anachronistic gentleman
Here's a dude with no particular purpose. Maybe he could be a character in a loosely historical RPG? The legs are Fireforge steppe infantry, the torso (including the sash) is Wargames Factory WSS, the hat and arms are from the Warlord firelocks, and the head is from Gripping Beast's dark age warriors.

Pan Twardowski
I'd hoped to feature this guy in some Halloween Mordheim, but I didn't get him done nearly in time, and now I don't have the energy to play. So here he his, famed sorcerer and alchemist, Pan Jan Twardowski. You can get the gist of this folkloric character from his wikipedia page, though it doesn't explain why he rides a chicken.
The chicken is a cheap toy from a dollar-store farm animal set, embiggened with greenstuff. I wanted to make it a specifically Polish breed, and it just so happens that there is a breed called the Polish Chicken that is quite visually striking.
The guy himself is a old GW Kislevite from the waist up (except for the sword blade and feather from Warlord plastics). His legs are from Wargames Factory's WSS plastics, with plenty of greenstuff to make the two pieces fit the weird chicken shape.
And I'd be lying if I said I didn't have help on this project from another icon of Polish culture...

Filling in the corners
I finally replenished my greenstuff stash with a trip to the Compleat Strategist in Manhattan (strange that it's more convenient for me to take the train to another state than to get to any of the closer hobby stores, but that's carless life for you). Given my idiosyncratic style, my hobby progress was pretty much paralyzed without it. Here are a motley bunch of rebels to get my units up to full strength with no overflow.
To start, some plain Cossack moloitsy. Two from Perry zouaves, one from Gripping Beast dark ages warriors. GB head on the left, other two have Fireforge Mongol heads, all with greenstuffed hat/hair.
Mostly GB Arab bodies with Zouave arms and heads. The tall one is Wargames Factory WSS with a Mongol head, and the officer has Wargames Factory WSS arms.
GB dark ages with a few GB Arab bits. And a short length of wire for the nailbat.
Ditto here.

A Motley Bunch
Here are four essentially unconnected miniatures. A boyar/noble of some sort, a Ottoman janissary, a poor boyar or village elder, and a Western-style musketeer.
The first three can be seen unpainted a couple posts back. The fourth is inspired by this thread, although I cut corners in a few places.

Miscellaneous conversions
I have *so many* WGF Persians. Here is one converted into a janissary, and another into a village elder or poor boyar or something. Some kinda angry bearded dude.
And also a better-equipped boyarish guy converted from a Warlord Games Celt leader.

here's a Mirza
The Tatars needed a commander, so I built one. The body and horse are Conquest Games Norman, the head is WGF Celt, the Arms are WGF Persian, and the bow+quiver is from Games Workshop High Elves. The helmet spire, helmet chainmail, torso plating, and bits of cloak over the legs are all greenstuffed.
The nice thing about only painting to a basic tabletop standard is that I can do so even if I'm pretty drunk.

More Tatars than you can shake a stick at!
First up: the kazindji, now with bases.
Next, a new batch of regular Tatar warriors.
Finally, a somewhat dramatic shot of all my Tatars so far. It's enough for a (smallish) battalia in Pike & Shotte.

Painted Kazindji (tatar rabble)
Not quite done yet, they still need some touch-ups and the bases are in the mail. But mostly they're complete. I especially like how the leader and the maslaks turned out. Also, undercoating with brown instead of black turned out well. I'll probably do the same for all units that are mostly earth tones.
