Proof of life

So my friend got me this Guildball team, and I'm painting it, and it's not done yet but it's real close. So since I haven't posted anything in a while, take a look at this shaggy barbarian and his two apprentice butchers.

The default color scheme is a little stark, but I suppose it makes sense that the butchers aren't the flashiest dressers around...

Well, technically, Chicago. I moved back a couple months ago, and it'll be another couple months until I can get a place of my own, so all my armies are still packed for the time being. However, my tabletop rp gaming group will be starting a Star Wars campaign soon. I've already made my character, a Trandoshan Diplomat/Agitator, and I'm pretty excited to play, so I converted up a miniature to represent him on the tabletop, even though the system doesn't really need miniatures.

Anyway, here's En-Johlrass, aka Joe Durasteel, anti-Imperial rabblerouser and all-around cool guy.

His base miniature was a Reaper Bones fantasy rogue character named Dub Bullock, and I just greenstuffed him into a lizard person, and repurposed his knife into a truncheon with a scrap of toothpick. I am, apparently, a wee bit out of practice both with sculpting and painting, but I think this worked out well enough. Although the blue coat might be a bit too much color....

Mortar

Here's the Warlord mortar, with partial crew. I bought the kit primarily for ladle crewman, that I was going to use for the diorama contest. I also previously posted the head gunner as a spyglass-using pirate. Here is the mortar itself, with the remaining crew. I especially like the mop guy, I expect he'll see plenty of use as a civilian bystander in skirmish games. Someone has to clean up the blood after all the swashes have been buckled...

Another favorite miniature

Here's the 17th century marksman from Warlord games, currently only available in a bundle with the master gunner. I just adore the subdued pose and characterful details of this little sculpt. He could be handy for skirmish gaming (although his pose might be unfair for system that uses true LoS) or he could be fit into a unit of ranked musketeers as a sort of unit filler.

Wizards and Command

Two officers and two musicians, except that one of each has been converted into a wizard. Hope you like them.

I've been hearing good things about Frostgrave...

...so maybe someday I'll buy the rules and try them out with my historical collection, as an alternative to Mordheim.

Apparently the distinguishing feature of Frostgrave is that each warband is build around a wizard and an apprentice. So I've started converting leftover miniatures into 17th-century spellcasters.

The generic duo is entirely Warlord Games plastics, except for the greenstuff and red beads. The Scotsmen are also Warlord-based, but with Gripping Beast spear arms and I think one Perry Zouave arm. The Cossack apprentice is a Zouave with a GB spear arm, and the older Cossack is a Fireforge Mongol with Warlord pike arms and a cut-down GW spearhead.

Beyoncé

I don't often get direct inspiration from pop culture, but the Formation music video from a week ago (the day before the Super Bowl) was pretty amazing, so I tried to replicate my favorite Beyoncé look in miniature form.

The head is from Wargames Factory Soviet infantry, the body is from the same company's WSS artillery crew, and the arms are from a Warlord Games Celt, all with plenty of greenstuff on top (some of which needs to be filed better). I guess she's some sort of monster hunter.

fun fact: necromancers hate hot sauce
